>Fatigue crack was found in the fillet weld of the sole plate at the girder support location in Aug. 1982 after 18 years of service.&br;
**3.Types of structure [#a31e56e4]
>The outline of the bridge structure is as follows.&br;
-Span length : 20.8m
-Structure : Simple non-composite I-beam girder bridge
-Deck : Reinforced concrete deck ( 20.0 cm thickness)
-Structural steel : 60 Kg/mm2 steel (sB = 60 Kg/mm2 )

>Plan and cross section were shown in [[figure 1>#fig1]]. This bridge is skewed 30 degree. The number of the main girders is three. The main girders are spaced at 3.5 m and are 1.5 m deep. The kind of the support is the bearing plate supports. The stiffeners on the support are composed of two angles installed from both sides.&br;

**4.Details of loading [#z2256203]
>Fluctuating loads due to vehicles live load.
**5.Description of damage [#l87c2f8b]
>Fatigue cracking was found in the fillet weld of the sole plate at the girder support. After penetrating through the girder bottom flange, the cracks had grown with 15cm length from the lowest girder web.&br;
&br;
&br;
>Cause of fatigue cracks was thought as follows:
-Stress concentration due to sudden change of the section.
**6.Repair method applied [#zd234384]
>Emergency repair
-24mm diameter stop hole was drilled at the crack tip. The steel plate of 12mm thickness was inserted between the washer and the girder web ([[Fig.2>#fig2]]). High strength bolts of F10T(M22) were fastened over them.

>Permanent repair
-Repair was to Bolt-splice by using the plates of 9mm thickness and high strength bolts of F10T (M20) was fastened. The filler plate of 22mm thickness was inserted in front of the sole plate. The area where the girder bottom flange had fractured was strengthened by bolt-splice ([[Fig.3>#fig3]],[[4>#fig4]]).

-Repair was to Bolt-splice by using the plates of 9mm thickness and high strength bolts of F10T (M20) was fastened. The filler plate of 22mm thickness was inserted in front of the sole plate. The area where the girder bottom flange had fractured was strengthened by bolt-splice ([[Fig.3>#fig3]],[[4>#fig4]]).
